Product details
The Trachycarpus fortunei is one of the most popular palm species in Northern Europe. This is mainly because this palm thrives best under European weather conditions. It can withstand temperatures as low as -18 degrees Celsius. The Trachycarpus is named after the biologist Robert Fortune and originates from Northern China. Here, the palm grows on the slopes of the Himalayas, where snow and extreme cold are not uncommon. The Trachycarpus fortunei is also winter hardy. It is a fast grower and can produce about 25 cm of trunk growth per year after a few years outdoors.
Care
The Trachycarpus fortunei is easy to care for and can be kept outdoors or in a pot. This palm needs a sunny location and very well-draining soil. It grows best in the open ground. Due to its high winter hardiness and robust foliage, it can also remain outside during the winter. If this palm is placed in a pot, make sure to use a large, deep container. During dry, hot summers, it should be watered several times a week, depending on how moist the soil is. As with any palm, the oldest brown leaf should be cut as close to the trunk as possible.
