Design with cylindrical and tapered inner dimensions. Self-aligning ball bearings feature two rows of balls and a common concave spherical raceway in the outer ring. They are therefore angularly sensitive and insensible to angular misalignment errors of the shaft in relation to the housing. They are particularly suitable for bearing conditions where significant shaft deflections or alignment errors are expected. Self-aligning ball bearings also have the lowest friction of all rolling bearings, allowing them to operate somewhat quieter and cooler even at higher speeds.
