Can the Gardena water distributor (with 6 outlets) be controlled with the smart water control? The idea would be, for example, to use the smart water control to control each outlet in the water distributor for 1 hour a day for a total of 6 hours. Does that work?

Yes, that is possible. In the schedule, you simply create 6 individual times when it should "rain". I use this myself. By the way, it also works with the Gardena moisture sensor.
