Is it water resistant? Can it be mounted outside in front of the gate or it needs a protection mechanism against the rain/snow?

Yes it is. It has a rubber band inside the battery compartment. But I am not sure, if the bell-button works when frozen.

According to the manufacturer, it is protected against water and dust to IP64. Personally, however, I would have my doubts about the snow. I would be afraid that the bell button would freeze.
