This line laser is the perfect choice for applications with a manageable working area such as installing suspended ceilings, hanging shelves, laying drain pipes and aligning lights.

I also used it to suspend my ceiling and it worked fine. So I would also say that this is possible. I would mount the laser in a corner and set the points from there.
