The model is a replica of the FIAT Mefistofele 2170 from the years 1923 to 1925. This unique racing car, derived from the old Fiat SB4 chassis, became known as Mefistofele for the hellish sound of its powerful 6-cylinder inline engine with a capacity of over 20,000 cm³, which is not muffled by exhaust gases. The muffler was kept "free" to achieve maximum performance. On July 12, 1924, the Mefistofele, with its driver and designer Ernest Eldrige, managed to reach the astonishing speed of 146.01 miles per hour (over 230 km/h) in Arpajon, setting the world speed record at that time. The Mefistofele is characterized by its high-backed body, which accommodates the powerful liquid-cooled Fiat A-12 engine, and its structure, which was specifically designed for speed records.
