Just in time for the start of the FIFA World Cup in Germany in 2006, the extensive renovation and new construction of the railway network in the center of Berlin was completed. This major project of the Berlin Central Station was thus finalized: the formerly quiet Lehrter Stadtbahnhof transformed into the central transfer station of the capital – one of the most impressive railway structures in the world in recent decades.
