Product details
The Horten Ho 229 was the prototype of a flying wing designed by brothers Reimar and Walter Horten towards the end of World War II, intended to carry the flying wing concept into the new jet era. Since the originally planned BMW jet engines were not available, they resorted to the already tested Junkers Jumo 004 engines, which required significant modifications to the fuselage. The Junkers Jumo 004 was the world's first production-ready jet engine. The official maiden flight of the prototype, with Erwin Ziller as the pilot, took place on February 2, 1945, and was largely satisfactory. However, during the final test flight, an engine failure occurred, leading to the crash of the aircraft, resulting in fatal injuries for Ziller. Despite this incident, 40 units were ordered, but they were never produced, as U.S. troops reached the manufacturing facility in Friedrichroda about two months later, on April 14, 1945. Model with 953 parts, 1 minifigure, printed blocks, and simple building instructions. Model dimensions (LxWxH): 23.5 x 52.5 x 10 cm.
