England 1238: Young Adela of Waringham and Bedric, the son of a peasant family, have grown up together. While Adela is sent as a lady-in-waiting to the king's sister and later marries a knight, Bedric toils in the fields of Waringham, subjected to the misery of serfdom and the whims of Adela's brother.
