The Tornado project originated from the collaboration of Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom with the aim of developing a powerful multirole combat aircraft. A twin-engine aircraft with a two-seat configuration and variable-sweep wings was designed to better fulfill its primary mission: a supersonic strike bomber capable of flying at low altitudes while following the terrain profile. The Tornado IDS (Interdictor/Strike), ideal for attack missions, was the first model used by the operational flying units of the three countries involved in its development. The variants specifically intended for the British Royal Air Force were designated as GR.1 and were actively deployed during the Gulf War in 1991, conducting a large number of missions.
