The twin-engine attack aircraft A-26 Invader, designed and manufactured by the American company Douglas, was notable for its exceptionally long operational time. The first examples reached the front lines during World War II in 1944, and the last versions participated in all major conflicts of the 1950s and 1960s, such as the Korean War, the Indochina War, and the Vietnam War. The most widely used version was the "B" variant, characterized by its heavy armament. The closed nose housed 6 to 8 Browning M2 machine guns of 12.7 mm caliber, significantly enhancing its firepower. Thanks to the structural robustness of the Invader, 20 mm cannons, 37 mm cannons, or a 75 mm howitzer could also be installed in the nose. The two reliable Pratt & Whitney R-2800 "Double Wasp" radial engines, each with 2,000 horsepower, enabled the Invader to reach a maximum speed of 570 km/h even when fully loaded.
