The model is a representation of the British infantry unit during World War II. On June 6, 1944, General Dempsey's troops of the British Expeditionary Force, consisting of the 3rd and 50th English Divisions as well as the Canadian 3rd Division, landed on the beaches of Normandy with the code names Sword, Juno, and Gold. D-Day had arrived. The British Expeditionary Force was to land and quickly take control of the city of Caen. Americans landing at Omaha and Utah in the west were to secure the Cotentin Peninsula and the port of Cherbourg.
