Armored Recovery Vehicles (ARVs) were introduced during World War II. They were built on the chassis of existing armored vehicles, with the main armament and turret removed, and specific equipment installed for the recovery or repair of armored combat vehicles damaged in battle. The American M-32 ARV was based on the chassis of the well-known Sherman A-4 medium tank and was used by the US Army in the European theater during World War II. It featured a design that allowed for the lifting and towing of damaged tanks. Additionally, the M-32 was equipped with a wide range of repair tools and spare parts on board, underscoring its role as a true mobile armored workshop capable of operating at the front lines. The M-32 was even able to perform complex operations such as replacing the tank's drive system. After the end of World War II, the M-32 served in the US Army during the Korean War and was used by many countries until the 1990s.
