The new engine technologies ensured better performance and higher operational efficiency compared to World War I. In the 1930s, the German Navy developed the famous S-class torpedo motorboats. From 1939 to 1940, the S-26 series was built, recognizable by its integrated foredeck featuring two 533-mm torpedo tubes. The aesthetic design of the bow was also retained and improved in later versions. Among the most well-known fast boats are those of the S-38 version. The nearly 100 produced units had a length of 35 meters and a displacement of over 100 tons when fully loaded. Thanks to its 12-cylinder Daimler-Benz engines, it could achieve a top speed of 39.5 knots.
