The economical, reliable T3 van was produced from 1979 onwards. The completely newly developed vehicle with its modern, functional design was visibly more spacious than its predecessor. As the last type produced by VW with a rear engine, it was considered the last real van. Depending on the version, its four-cylinder engine offered 50 to 112 hp. As usual, the van appeared in various commercial vehicle versions, but also in the form of a camping bus for private purposes. In particular, the successful version of the Joker from the Gütersloh-based company Westfalia, with which VW had already been cooperating successfully since the 1950s, enjoyed great popularity.
