Officially licensed DC Comics product

The fictional character of Supergirl was first used as a supporting character in stories of the popular American science fiction comic book series Superman. Since the character met with an extremely positive response from the readership of the Superman comics and readers kept asking for more and more new stories with the Supergirl character, those responsible at DC Publishing, where the Superman series was published at the time and is still published today, decided to no longer use Supergirl only as a supporting character in Superman stories, but to dedicate stories of their own to the character, in which Supergirl was to take on the role of the main character carrying the plot.
