The hooves of the Tennessee Walker Horses have a particularly flat angle. Most horses of this breed run "barefoot", so they do not wear horseshoes. They would only hinder them when walking. The Tennessee Walker Horse is famous for its remarkably pleasant to ride gaits of "Walk", "Running Walk" and "Kanter". Even the foals have a natural command of them and love to show them off while they romp and play in the paddock. Origin of all Tennessee Walker Horses is a black foal named Black Allan, born in 1886. He didn't like to trot, but preferred to run at a fast pace ("Walk" and "Running Walk"). The breeders quickly learned to appreciate the new gaits.
