Registered with the Wehrmacht under the designation LKW 3,6-36 S 3t Blitz, this vehicle exemplifies the typical combination applied in 1938 during the construction of civilian vehicles that were later converted into military vehicles. The same truck - Opel without Blitz - was indeed produced with more or less similar features for commercial use. It was rightly called "the workhorse" of the German army, the vehicle for all purposes, an unflagging witness to the joys and sorrows that accompanied the Wehrmacht in battles fought from the North Sea to the African sandy desert. Many thousands of units were built, assigned to all branches of the army, the air force, the navy, and the SS. Photographs from World War II show the Opel Blitz on all fronts, adorned with various insignia of combat units and auxiliary services. The color of these vehicles was dark green (sand yellow in Africa). From June 1943, all vehicles, both civilian and military, were delivered in sand yellow. The Opel Blitz was manufactured in numerous versions - ambulance, fuel truck, command vehicle, workshop vehicle - and model builders have a diverse selection to meet their individual preferences.
