The styles 1A, 3A, and 5A are the most commonly used. The 1A style means that the player and the yoyo (ball bearing) are both connected by the string. The player performs tricks by interacting with the string; this is still the most practiced yoyo style today. The 3A style is similar to 1A, but with a yoyo in each hand, requiring interactions between the two yoyos. The 5A style differs in that the yoyo is connected to a counterweight on the other side of the string, increasing the number of possible tricks.
