Regarding microfracture, inconsistent and sometimes even controversial results have been published. While some researchers believe that the repair tissue becomes durable and resilient, others argue that it cannot withstand long-term stress, leading to a gradual deterioration of knee joint functionality over time. Therefore, the aim of this study was to present a clinically relevant best estimate of the expected treatment effect using statistical methods, as well as to identify the patient- and defect-specific characteristics that influence it. Since the relevant studies identified through a literature review used different assessment systems, a uniform (transformed) dataset had to be created based on the outcomes of our own patients.
