60G LTE phone by Fisher-Price

Fisher-Price’s Chatter Telephone is turning 60. To celebrate this anniversary, a Bluetooth version for adults will be released. That really isn’t what the world’s been waiting for.

A smiling face, colourful stickers, a red handset and a rotary dial – that’s the Chatter Telephone by Fisher-Price. Since 1961, this bulky white piece of plastic has been many children's first phone. To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Mattel has reinvented the iconic toy and released a version for adults.

However, this isn’t a landline phone, but a kind of speakerphone for your smartphone. Mattel calls it the «60G LTE» phone, which stands for «60 great years, Let’s Talk Everywhere». You can connect Android and iOS devices to it via Bluetooth and use the Chatter Telephone to make and receive calls – as long as your phone is within 4.5 metres of it. It looks just like its toy counterpart.

The question is: will adults ever use it to make phone calls? Imagine a Wall Street broker trading his GME shorts via the Fisher-Price Chatter Telephone while he hits his intern with a chauvinistic look. To help your imagination, I’ve dug deep into my box of insane Photoshop skills:

Swiss bankers will have to wait a bit longer for this nostalgic hands-free phone system. For now, the Chatter Telephone is available exclusively at Best Buy for $60. Will it be released on the European market and if so, when? We don’t know yet.
