After rotating mopping pads, mopping rollers are now playing an increasingly important role in vacuum mopping robots. The advantage of rollers is that they are continuously cleaned and supplied with fresh water during mopping. This should make the floor cleaner. At CES in January, Roborock presented its first vacuum mopping robot with a roller, the Qrevo Curv 2 Flow.

The X version is now available, which comes with an additional dust bag and filter, but is technically the same. My colleague Lorenz is testing the model and will be publishing a review shortly.

Self-cleaning roller instead of pads

The highlight of the Qrevo Curv 2 FlowX is its rotating, self-cleaning mopping roller. It manages up to 220 revolutions per minute. According to the product description, it wipes away dirty water and absorbed dirt with every rotation and is moistened with fresh water.

According to the manufacturer, the mopping roller exerts a pressure of up to 15 Newtons on the floor. For the Qrevo Curv mop pad model, Roborock specifies a value of up to six Newtons. The higher the pressure, the better the robot scrubs away stubborn dirt.

The roller is 27 centimetres wide and, according to the manufacturer, wipes to within less than one centimetre of the wall edge thanks to its lateral movement capability.

20,000 Pa suction power

Roborock specifies a suction power of 20,000 Pa for the Qrevo Curv 2 FlowX. This makes it one of the most powerful suction devices currently available. The manufacturer promises that with this suction power, the Robi can also remove dirt particles from deep-pile carpets and floor crevices.

The two side brushes guide hair and dirt to the main brush under the robot body. The brush is shaped in such a way that hair is transported to the centre of the brush and can disappear into the suction channel from there. This means you don't have to manually pick annoying hair from the brush.

Navigation, camera functions and object recognition

The Qrevo Curv 2 FlowX is equipped with lidar for mapping and real-time navigation. This enables it to measure distances precisely. Lidar navigation is faster and more reliable than visual navigation via camera.

The robot still has a camera on board. It needs it for AI-supported environment analysis. To make cleaning more efficient, the AI is supposed to recognise what kind of dirt the robot is dealing with. In the case of wet dirt or liquids, the robot switches to pure mopping mode and switches off the hoover. In the case of dry dirt and heavy dust as well as recognised carpet, it lifts the roller and, if necessary, increases the suction power. To prevent the roller from coming into contact with the carpet, the robot extends a protective cover for the mopping roller.

In addition, the robot should be able to identify and avoid more than 200 objects such as toys, shoes and explicitly named « surprises» your pets. In the dark, a small spotlight provides the necessary light.

The Qrevo Curv 2 FlowX can also use the front camera for fun functions. The manufacturer advertises real-time video calls: You can watch and talk to your pet. If you wish, your robot can also automatically take pet snapshots and display them in the app. You can also send it on a targeted search for your pet.

The docking station takes care of the robot

After returning to the base station, the dust bin and dirty water tank are emptied and fresh water is topped up. Cleaning the rollers with water heated up to 75 degrees is also part of the robot care programme. The hot water is designed to remove grease and dirt from the mopping roller. The cleaning tray in the base station separates clean and dirty water during roller cleaning. This ensures that the roller only comes into contact with fresh water, while the dirty water is collected in the dirty water tank.

Afterwards, a 55-degree air stream dries the roller and the base of the station to prevent mould and musty odours.

The robot has a diameter of 35 and a height of just under 12 centimetres. You need to plan 45 × 45 × 45 centimetres of space for the docking station.
