Bits and bobs – can’t live with them, can’t live without them. Use this simple trick to bring order to the chaos.

It’s small changes that often make the biggest difference. Have you ever grappled with where to store small items such as reading glasses and keys in style? Homestyling professionals from brands such as Broste Copenhagen, Bloomingville and Ferm Living have the answer: a simple serving tray. In their current catalogues, they show how a tray not only organises your knick-knacks, but also elegantly stages them.

You can easily adopt this simple trick. Simply arrange your sunglasses, pens or decorative objects in groups on a tray. Alternatively, you can use a deep bowl or shallow storage boxes with no lid. Arrange them according to size and shape to create a harmonious picture, with smaller objects at the front and larger ones at the back.

If all the objects you’re trying to organise are the same size, you can create more variation by using different sizes of trays.
