An emergency stop button must stop the machine as quickly as possible. To achieve a rapid stop, either the power is cut off directly, or a frequency converter is allowed to decelerate before the power is switched off with a slight delay. An emergency stop button must not trigger any other hazards. Emergency stop buttons achieve up to PL e/Category 4 according to EN ISO 13849-1. Many models feature an LED indicator on the button.
