High-performance graphics cards often now require two PCI-E power connectors. However, even these may not be sufficient for some top models, which is why the PCIe 2.0 standard was developed, allowing for both 6-pin and 8-pin connectors. Unfortunately, older and even many current power supplies do not have these connectors.
