With the Auerswald COMfortel PoE-1000, an IEEE 802.3af compatible network device, such as a wireless access point, IP phone, or network camera, can be powered directly through the network cable. This allows the connection of these powered devices to an unpowered LAN switch port. Powering through the network connection reduces the number of cables and increases flexibility in choosing the installation location. A separate power adapter is no longer needed; only the network cable is required for connection, and the device does not have to be placed near a power outlet.
