The HPE Smart Array P408i-p SR Gen10 RAID Controller is an enterprise-class storage controller designed for HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers. This PCI Express x8 3.0 controller delivers 12 Gb/s SAS connectivity and supports both SAS and SATA drives through its eight internal SAS lanes. With 2 GB Flash-Backed Write Cache (FBWC), it enhances performance in database, messaging, and general server applications while reducing latency in write-intensive operations. The controller features Mixed Mode operation, allowing simultaneous RAID and HBA functionality, which eliminates the need for additional controllers. Data security is provided through HPE Smart Array SR Secure Encryption, protecting data-at-rest on any connected drive and supporting compliance with regulations such as HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley. The encryption feature has undergone FIPS 140-2 Implementation Under Testing with expected Level 1 validation. Performance optimization includes HPE SSD Smart Path technology, which creates faster I/O paths between the controller and SSDs for environments with repeated data reads from multiple solid-state drives. For HDD environments, HPE Smart Array SR SmartCache enables caching of frequently accessed data onto SSDs. Reliability features include HPE SmartSSD Wear Gauge for proactive drive health monitoring and long-term data retention capabilities through the flash-backed write cache. Management is streamlined with HPE Smart Storage Administrator (SSA) for intuitive configuration of RAID volumes and advanced controller features. The UEFI storage configuration tool supports rapid setup of simple RAID volumes and scripting via iLO RESTful interface. This controller requires the HPE Smart Storage Battery for multiple device support, which is sold separately. It is engineered to address evolving data storage needs in enterprise environments where performance, reliability, and security are critical considerations.
