The lithium thionyl chloride battery (LiSOCl2) is a non-rechargeable battery with lithium as the anode and a graphite electrode as the cathode. Thionyl chloride is cathodically reduced and serves both as a solvent and as an electrolyte. With a voltage of 3.6 volts, the cell voltage of lithium thionyl chloride batteries is significantly higher than that of other types of primary batteries. This voltage level is maintained nearly constant throughout the entire discharge duration of the battery.
