Cat6 cables are designed for operating frequencies of up to 250 MHz. They are used for signal transmission with high data transfer rates (1 Gbps). Due to the high signal frequencies, careful installation and assembly are required, especially at the connection points of the wires. The individual wire pairs in Cat6 cables are twisted at different tightness, which further reduces susceptibility to interference compared to Cat5e. Applications for Cat6 cables include voice and data transmission, as well as multimedia and ATM networks. Even more powerful are cables according to Cat6e (500 MHz) and Cat6a (625 MHz).

A significant advantage of slim patch cables is their use in wiring racks and 48-port switches. Their extremely thin design and great flexibility help avoid cable clutter, maintaining a clear overview.

The AWG (American Wire Gauge) system is based on the manufacturing process of wires and expresses the conductor thickness of copper wire. AWG36 corresponds to a conductor cross-section of 0.0127 mm². UTP cables consist of a plastic sheath that contains unshielded, twisted pairs of wires. Due to the lack of shielding, UTP cables have a small outer diameter and are easy to handle and install. These are the most widely used cables for Ethernet LANs worldwide. Cat6 cables are particularly applied in professional settings for operating frequencies of up to 250 MHz. Transmission speed may suffer over longer lengths, but short excess lengths are generally acceptable depending on external influences. Application fields for Cat6 include voice and data transmission, as well as multimedia and ATM networks.
