In the year 2090, the world's conflicts are fought with massive war machines known as Wanzers. Huffman Island, the only place where the Oceania Cooperative Union (OCU) and the Unified Continental States (UCS) share a land border, is a hotspot for conflict.

An OCU reconnaissance unit led by Captain Royd Clive is tasked with investigating a UCS munitions factory. They are ambushed by UCS Wanzers, triggering a series of events that plunge the entire island into war. Royd's fiancée, Lieutenant Karen Meure, goes missing in action.

Discharged from the military, Royd sets out to discover what happened to Karen. His search brings him closer to the conspiracy behind the incident and the forces that orchestrated it.

With dozens of characters to meet, a mature storyline, and non-manichean protagonists, Front Mission is a classic of the tactical Japanese RPG genre that is finally available worldwide.
