The light of the sun is partially polarized in a natural way due to the reflection of electrons in air molecules, which causes the light to be scattered into what appears as turbidity. A polarizing filter directs this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light and filters it, allowing the absorption of a large portion of this light. This leads to a noticeable reduction in glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in saturation of the sky and foliage.
