Maximum RAM technology per CPU:

• Registered DIMM: 384GB RAM (24 x 16GB RIMM) for 1 CPU, 768GB (48 x 16GB RDIMM) for 2 CPUs
• Load Reduced DIMM: 1.5TB RAM (24 x 64GB LRDIMM) for 1 CPU, 3TB (48 x 64GB LRDIMM) for 2 CPUs. Registered DIMM and Load Reduced LRDIMM memory modules must not be mixed. Therefore, when upgrading, you should know which memory is already present or upgrade completely with LRDIMM memory.

Principles of memory configuration: Each CPU is equipped with 2 memory controllers. Each memory controller has 2 SMIs (Scalable Memory Interfaces) with up to 6 memory slots. Thus, a CPU can address up to 24 RAM modules (2 controllers x 2 SMI x 6 DIMM slots). Registered DIMM and Load Reduced LRDIMM memory modules must not be mixed. Therefore, when upgrading, you should know which memory is already present or upgrade completely with LRDIMM memory.

Memory slots without a processor present must not be populated. Memory configuration for good system performance: Optimal performance is achieved with 4 or 8 identical memory modules per CPU. With a configuration of 8 DIMMs (1 DIMM per channel), 16 DIMMs (2 DPC), or 24 DIMMs (3 DPC) per CPU, interleaving is optimally supported across the memory controllers and memory channels. This allows for maximum performance in Independent Mode and Lockstep Mode. Configurations with 2 DIMMs, 6 DIMMs, or 10 DIMMs per CPU are not recommended. Distribute the memory evenly across the memory slots and evenly across the CPUs. If more than one CPU is present, the memory should be configured identically (mirrored to the other CPU) per CPU.
