To ensure maximum playback quality on the one hand and complete isolation of the phono preamplifier from the mains on the other, the Power Box RS Phono with battery power supply was created. The power
supply quality is particularly crucial when the signals to be amplified are very small. A low-output MC cartridge typically has an output voltage of 0.2mV = 0.0002V. Such signals are highly sensitive to interference signals from the mains. When the Power Box RS Phono is connected to the Phono Box RS and switched on, there is only the battery connection to the Phono Box RS. Since the power supply unit and the charging unit are physically separated, interference from the mains supply cannot have a detrimental effect on the sound. If the battery charge falls below a certain level, further playback could damage the batteries. For this reason, the charging electronics become active automatically, with the charging status indicated by LEDs on the front panel. Playback continues, but the advantage of a complete disconnection from the mains does not exist for the time of charging. Although this means that the biggest advantage is temporarily absent, the battery acts as a filter and the sound quality is still far better than with the standard mains adapter. As soon as the batteries are fully charged, the charging electronics are automatically disconnected and the Phono Box RS is powered only by the batteries.
