Make sure that the HDMI cable from the monitor and the VR glasses are plugged into the same graphics card. You may need a DisplayPort to HDMI transition. This might help.

I had the problem with the Surface Book that my USB port is on the left side of the device and a USB-C port for a display adapter on the right side, so the short Y-part of the cable was not enough to connect USB and HDMI. I had my gamer headset on first but if you plan to play for longer sessions (1h or more) in-ear are much more comfortable... why don't you wait for the Oculus Quest VRH?

VRChat works because it can be run with the SteamVR framework.
To use SteamVR, however, you have to download SteamVR for Windows Mixed Reality from the Store.
This also requires that the VR headset is properly installed in Windows Mixed Reality.
