The G version is a bit newer. The focus motor on the G version is supposed to be quieter, although I can't complain about the volume. The G version has slightly more rounded aperture blades than the older D (for a nicer, softer bokeh, which can sometimes turn out "hard" on the D). Qualitatively, there is not much difference between the two. But in the meantime I would get the newer one ;)

Will this lens fit the Nikon D5500?

Yes, but without autofocus, so you have to focus by hand. The lens does not have a built-in motor and neither does the camera (hence the low prices of the two products).

I use the lens on a D610 and D750 and I am thrilled with the price-performance ratio of the lens. According to the Nikon compatibility list, autofocus is not supported on the D3300. supported. See NIKON website: https://nikoneurope-de.custhelp.com/app...

Good day. Since the lens does not have an integrated AF motor (and neither does the D5300), the lens is only compatible in that the focus must always be set manually. The 50mm lens that is compatible for the D5300 would be the Nikkor 50mm AF-S -> Nikon AF-S 50mm, f/1.8G
