In my case, the device picks up the existing signal and amplifies it (at a weak point). You can then give the "new" WiFi a new name. It works well but a weak signal is only amplified minimally, in absolute terms (in my case from approx. 12Mbit upload to 22Mbit).

Helpful answer

Yes, this is a Wi-Fi amplifier (Wi-Fi repeater). It expands your existing Wi-Fi network, improves the signal strength and eliminates dead spots to enable a more stable and faster connection. The maximum transmission rate is 300 Mbps and it employees in the 2.4 GHz single band with the 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi standards.

Not really, if you are a little affine it is very easy, alternative possibilities would be to look at YouTube for a tutorial

Hoi According to Xi, the part can handle WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encryption (https://www.mi.com/global/product/mi-wifi-range-extender-pro/specs). But Xi or the manual is silent on whether the repeater can also use AES... LG

Range extenders are not worth the money, they cannot technically improve a WLAN, the concept of a range extender is totally outdated. The best solution for weak WiFi reception is a so-called mesh WiFi system, which consists of several WiFi routers that build a stable WiFi network between them. The ISP's WLAN is disabled, the first mesh router is connected to the ISP's router and other mesh routers are then connected to the first mesh router. This is not difficult to set up. The best solution would be from Xiaomi, the AX3000 system consists of 2 identical mesh routers, the whole system could also be expanded to a maximum of 10 routers. This gives you a stable WLAN, which is also fast and works without any problems. Xiaomi AX3000

I would never extend a WLAN with extenders, these solutions are outdated and in the past only brought frustration, the speed can also drop in an extender chain, another problem is that WLAN devices do not select the extender with the best reception and then literally hang up on the already connected extender until the connection breaks off completely. Spending money on extenders is money down the drain. For the best WLAN results, I recommend buying a WLAN mesh system, e.g. the one from Xiaomi, it is perfectly suited to provide even large flats with WLAN quickly, can also manage WiFi 6 and up to 256 devices. Each mesh router also has 3 x Gbit Ethernet built in, where you can then use three LAN connections. Xiaomi AX3000 The set with two WiFi mesh routers is a bit more expensive than an extender, but you have a solution in your house that not only runs great but is also very fast and can be expanded to up to 10 devices. Buy it nice or buy it twice.
