SX/164 TRS-MIDI 0.20 Type A MIDI Cable STRIX Series

MiniJack TRS 3.5 / MIDI DIN 5 Pin female adapter cable, suitable for devices that have a MIDI output on a 3.5 mm mini jack; perfect in combination with one of our MIDI DIN 5 Pin male/male connectors. Type A connection as shown.

Also available with Type B connection.

Musical instruments and various MIDI devices must be physically connected to communicate with each other. For this purpose, the MIDI standard prescribes the use of a triad of 5-pin DIN connectors, of which only the middle 3 pins are used. With the help of a 5-pin DIN connector, these cables enable the physical connection between instruments. The three connectors are distinguished as follows:

The MIDI protocol emerged in the early 1980s in response to the need for different electronic musical instruments to communicate with each other, taking into account the characteristics of each individual instrument. Several manufacturers already offered some interface systems for their instruments, such as CV/gate, DIN sync, and Digital Control Bus (DCB). These proprietary algorithm-based interfaces guaranteed operation only with devices from the same manufacturer, while the demand for a system that could ensure operation with devices from different manufacturers grew. The finished project was only unveiled in August 1983 when the specifications of the new MIDI protocol were presented to the public at the NAMM Show in Los Angeles. Since then, MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) has established itself as the standard protocol for the interaction of electronic musical instruments, including through a computer.
