The Roland S-1 is part of the AIRA series and is a powerful polyphonic micro-synthesizer inspired by the Roland SH-101. The compact S-1 delivers punchy basses and expressive lead sounds. It also features various wave manipulations, integrated sequencing, and thoughtful performance functions. The oscillator, envelope, filter, and LFO sections provide the foundation for creative sound design. The 26 multifunction pads allow for keyboard-style playing over 2 octaves. Additionally, there is an integrated step sequencer and useful shortcuts for effect control. The step-loop function enables quick generation of live fills. With the chorus effects from the Juno and JX-3P, as well as manual and tempo-synchronized delays, even more color and dynamics come into play. The synthesizer can be connected to DAWs and music apps via USB-C. Through the MIDI connections, the S-1 becomes a standalone sound module. With the built-in battery, a runtime of up to 4.5 hours is possible.
