Movable lighting, picture and sound equipment must be secured against falling by two independently acting devices. Typical movably suspended or fixed devices used in event and production technology are e.g. spotlights, effect devices, loudspeakers, supporting structures as well as trusses, mounting brackets, mirror balls, monitors, projection devices etc. In the cases described here, a safety element (second independent safety device) consists of wire rope, rope end connection and connecting link. When dimensioning the elements, the dynamic forces when absorbing the load have been taken into account. Safety ropes consist of a wire rope according to DIN 3060 (round strand rope 6 x 19 standard, with fiber core) with a nominal strength of the wires of 1770 N/mm2. Quick connection links, chain links, screw carabiners or shackles can be used as links in safety ropes. A safety rope must be attached in such a way that the drop height of the object to be secured is as low as possible. The fall height of 20 cm must not be exceeded. When an object falls into the safety element, there is an impulse load for the rope. This impulse force is partly absorbed by the rope elongation. When securing on movable lamp hangers, the safety ropes must be attached in such a way that the height of fall of 5 cm is not exceeded, so that the impulse forces on the lamp hanger do not become too great when a load falls. A safety element which has once been loaded or apparently damaged must not be used again. The safety rope must not be used as a connection rope for general hoisting operations.
