The Supermicro SATA DOM (Disk on Module), known as SuperDOM, is a small SATA3 (6Gb/s) flash storage module designed for convenient insertion into a SATA port on a server motherboard. It offers powerful solid-state storage capacity that simulates a hard disk drive (HDD). The Supermicro SATA DOMs are extremely reliable, as they have no moving parts like traditional HDDs, and are smaller and lighter with significantly improved performance, latency, and power consumption (approximately 1W-2W per SATA DOM compared to 6W-7W for an HDD).

The Supermicro SuperDOM operates up to twice as fast as other SATA DOM products in the industry. Its optimized design eliminates the need for a 5V power cable that other SATA DOM products on the market require, thereby enhancing performance and reliability. However, it remains backward compatible with server motherboards that require this 5V power cable. The Supermicro SuperDOM is available in capacities of 128GB, 64GB, 32GB, and 16GB and supports all Supermicro SuperServer products and solutions.

The Supermicro SuperDOM is designed for use as a boot drive, backup recovery device, license drive, OS installation device (as a replacement for CD/DVD-ROMs), and as a storage element for embedded systems, making it suitable for use in harsh environments where mechanical hard drives would fail. Its compact size and low power requirements also make it ideal for thin clients.
