The Japanese lens manufacturer Tamron, a leader in the production of high-quality optical products for a wide range of applications, has announced the launch of the 12–20mm F2.8 (model A084), a fast ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras with Sony E-mount and Nikon Z-mount.

The standout feature of the 12–20mm F2.8 (Model A084) is its ultra-wide-angle focal length range of 12 mm to 20 mm. The overwhelming breadth of the 12 mm perspective enables a dynamic visual effect that gives the impression of ‘capturing the entire expanse of a scene’. With a constant maximum aperture of F2.8 across the entire zoom range, this lens has the potential to become a ‘star performer’ for astrophotography and interior shots. The optical system comprises one XGM (eXpanded Glass-Moulded Aspherical) element, three GM (Glass-Moulded Aspherical) elements and several special lens elements. This design effectively suppresses edge blur and chromatic aberration whilst also correcting sagittal coma, a typical challenge in astrophotography. This ensures high sharpness from the centre of the image right out to the very corners.
Despite its compact design, it is a professional-grade tool featuring various switches and rings for particularly comfortable operation.

For autofocus, the lens is equipped with VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive), a fast and highly precise linear focus motor. Furthermore, with a minimum focusing distance of 0.18 m at 12 mm, the lens offers impressive close-up performance, opening up additional creative possibilities.
