Poland before the transition: The official Jozef is a respected, powerful man. However, for no apparent reason, he suddenly finds himself stripped of his office and monitored at every turn. His family panics; his daughter runs into a car and dies. For equally inexplicable reasons, the party reinstates its official, but Jozef, now forewarned, prepares for his escape.
