After successful installation, the camera only records when wifi is available. When I switch off the router, a "disconnected" message appears and no videos are recorded when there is movement or similar. Is this normal?

Yes, this is normal. If the camera has no internet connection, it cannot record, record or save to Dropbox. It will only save to the inserted memory card until it is full.
