Are these really great and complicated effects that you often see on YT etc. possible if I simply connect the two fans to the motherboard or is this Commander Pro absolutely necessary for this?

If you mean, for example, like montanablack. Then that's no problem. Simply load the appropriate corsair program and select the desired design.
This fan looks mega nice
