Can I connect this cable to my monitor which only has plugs and still play at 144hz (graphics card has connection)? Thank you.

If I understand you correctly, your monitor has 144Hz and you have a graphics card with DisplayPort. The monitor should have a cable that transmits the 144Hz. I returned my cable because this happened to me. But of course you can buy another cable. The price/performance ratio is right for this product.
