Can the volume on the "Audio Control Module" be controlled independently of that of Windows? I ask because my headphones (Sennheiser HD 555, nominal impedance 50) are much too loud directly on the sound card. I can only operate them at about 4% of the maximum volume, which means that the sound quality suffers.

This will still be too loud afterwards. The reason is the low input impedance of 50 (k)ohms. Take better headphones - up to 80 ohms, we're talking about portable roaring machines that are good in loud environments but damage your hearing. For good sound (gaming, music and films), I would go for 120 ohms or higher.
