Yes and no. The headphones are not designed for this, although they do work in louder environments, as the range of the microphone is very limited.
I switched back to Jabra for the office because I found the Sony too closed when speaking.

The WH-1000XM5 support the Sidetone function, In that case ambient sounds or the sounds of the headset operation may be heard through the headset, but this is not a malfunction.
