No, it does not have to be switched on separately. The soundbar is intended for a PC monitor, please note the dimensions of the soundbar.

The Soundbar is connected to a monitor or directly to the PC or notebook. It has no on/off switch, as soon as the PC or notebook is switched on, or the monitor is also switched on.
