Hello do you also need a mainboard with PCIe bifurcation for this or are the two NVMe SSDs displayed directly as one "volume"?

Hi, no you don't. The WD Black AN1500 has a built in RAID controller that will join both SSDs together and display them as one SSD. WD has a compatibility list on their website https://documents.westerndigital.com/content... Hope this helps Greetings KingRaven90
