I have second device because I wanted to buy the new version and went back to this smaller version for many reasons. Anyway i have never heard of this and never had this issue. The autofocus is great and the only thing i would point out is the lumins which makes the projector usable only with low or more dark environment.

We have had no problems at all with the autofocus. The times it has misfocused (on the back of someone’s head, or if the window was open and a breeze moved the screen), we just turned it off then on again and it sorted itself out.
